Hosting a Global Footprints Scholar
Thank you for your interest offering a Scholar a work experience placement.
Our program in a nutshell
-
A Global Footprints Scholarship is a self-directed career development opportunity for young Australians in agriculture, horticulture and many trades. Successful applicants receive an AUD $8,000 grant to travel overseas for industry experience, professional development workshops, networking opportunities and mentoring.
Global Footprint Scholarships are being awarded by BBM Youth Support, an independent for-purpose organisation with no political or religious affiliations.
Our Vision
Young people growing a better world.
Our Purpose
We support young people to become practical and impactful leaders.
Our Values
Courage, Care, Connection
-
Our scholars are ‘doers’ who love to work with their hands. They share a concern for the future of Australia and our planet and are committed to growing a better, more sustainable, world.
Our Global Footprints Scholars are aged between 18 and 25 years. They have completed or are nearing completion of their qualification working in agriculture, horticulture and many trades. They are passionate about their work and love to learn.
While there are currently over 100 different scholarships for university students in Australia, Global Footprints Scholarships are the only scholarships available exclusively for vocationally trained young people.
-
As change makers for the future, the opportunity for our scholars to learn about sustainable practices, innovation and thought leadership within your industry, is invaluable.
A Global Footprints Scholarship provides the means for each scholar to visit and learn from businesses and organisations like yours, that embrace and develop practices for impact.
Learning is at the heart of this scholarship, and your scholar chose to ask you for the opportunity to shadow you and learn.

Conflict
However, sometimes an issue may arise. If an issue or conflict arises between the Scholar and Host, it is preferable that any discussion of problems be done verbally rather than in written or message form.
If the Host has a concern they should contact the Global Footprints team directly. If the situation remains unresolved, it must be escalated to the CEO. Where appropriate, mediation may also be considered.
After following an agreed process to resolve the issue and with support from the Global Footprints team, the Host and/or the Scholar are free to terminate the placement at any time if they feel it is not working and the achievement of the desired outcomes is therefore not occurring.
Placement termination
The placement may be terminated at any time by either the Host or the Scholar providing 2 days’ notice of termination.

BBM has been awarding scholarships since 1984, with more than 1,000 young Australians having travelled overseas to pursue their career goals and create a better future for themselves and their communities.
Our organisation and its programs are funded through the legacy of the historical Big Brother Movement, a youth migration scheme of the Australian Government that assisted young British men to migrate to Australia between 1925 and 1982.
Most of these young men pursued work in agriculture and trades, and the organisation operated properties, including a training farm and hostels, to get new arrivals started.
When the program finished in 1983, the organisation’s assets were sold and proceeds were invested into a capital fund to support the successor organisation BBM Youth Support and its programs. The legacy of our youth migrants, alongside sponsorships from our industry partners, still funds the scholarship program and all our operations.
