Agriculture

For as long as I can remember my main goal was to create an abundant future with nutrient rich and locally grown foods that aren’t sprayed, shipped across the world or genetically modified.

I want to make a positive impact on the environment and people’s lives. I hope to learn more about sustainable agriculture and how to grow healthy nutritious food. I hope to use the skills I learn to implement them on my own farm, which I dream of having one day, so I can provide food for my local community.

I am interested in silvopasture and syntropic agroforestry systems to improve soil quality and assist in sequestering carbon from the atmosphere. I also want to learn more about improving biodiversity by diversifying and rotating crops seasonally, integrating native plants and using organic methods to eliminate the need to use fungicides and herbicide.

In my backyard at home I’m working on building somewhat of a nursery filled with fruit tree seedlings to one day plant out on a farm. Everything I do in my garden is working to prepare for when I have a farm so I can help create a more sustainable world.

This is important to me because I don’t agree with what the big agricultural companies are doing to our land and our food. GMO food, fungicide and pesticide use are big no no’s in my book as they lead to soil degradation, contaminate the food we eat and poison the ecosystem and food chain.

I would love to travel to Costa Rica and learn more about organic farming and other sustainable practices to improve soil health, conserve water, and eliminate the use of pesticides and fertilizers. Additionally, I would be interested in learning about how farmers in the region are diversifying their crops and using agroforestry to improve soil health and reduce the risk of pests and disease.
