Knowing how to use plants for everyday life is, I believe, one of the best ways to have a sustainable future, and getting that knowledge from people who have used those techniques for centuries is one of the best ways to learn.”

This scholarship means accessing and experiencing a world entirely different from my own.

It means learning, growing and fulfilling life dreams I’ve had for years but have been unable to access.

Having a passion for horticulture, I’ve always been curious about the different plants and growing conditions all around the world, Canada being at the top of the list. Being able to visit and see how plants are grown, propagated and sold somewhere else would give me experience I’d never be able to gain where I am now.

I am also highly interested in how businesses treat pests without using harsh pesticides that harm the environment and beneficial insects.

I also love learning about native plants and their uses in everyday life. It amazes me how aboriginal Australians use plants in healing, health, food and everyday life. Learning about the different uses of plants by First Nations people in a different part of the world is fascinating. Knowing how to use plants for everyday life is, I believe, one of the best ways to have a sustainable future, and getting that knowledge from people who have used those techniques for centuries is one of the best ways to learn.

I have a couple places I’d love to visit, the UK and Canada being at the top of my list.

Canada and the Uk just seem like such a beautiful and friendly countries and somewhere I would be safe and able to fully knuckle down and learn more tricks of the trade. My main interest is to see how the plants and techniques differ to what I know here, specifically in propagation and I would love to teach my peers back home what I’ve learnt.

I'm going to experience things I wouldn't have the opportunity to do here in my small hometown
