2024 | Trade, Electrical

Finn Howard and his employer AGL with support from Ai Group are participating in our 2024 pilot program for employer supported scholarships. Read more about this pilot.

“This scholarship will help me get a better grasp on what work in my industry is like in different areas and different countries. I hope to learn what people from different work places, backgrounds and cultures do and take some of their knowledge to pass on to others. I hope to gain knowledge that I can use not only whilst finishing my apprenticeship but also well into my trade.”

A Global Footprints Scholarship is your opportunity to do more of what you love. What have you done at work that you are proud of or passionate about?

I have done plenty of upgrade jobs and install jobs at work which I am very proud of, I am very passionate in my work field and love trying my hardest to keep all my work neat and tidy, I love the satisfaction that I get from finish and job and looking back at it and saying I am proud of that.

A Global Footprints Scholarship is for you if you are passionate about creating a sustainable future. Describe something you have done at work or are working on, that helps the environment. Why is it important to you?

I always try to make sure I am as sustainable as possible in my work as well as my personal life. I try to always think of new ways that I can make our work area more sustainable and environmentally friendly, it is important to me because I would love to see this world keep going and limit the problems climate change and global warming cause for future generations.

I have recently taken an interest in battery banks and technology to replace coal power with renewables. This is happening in Dederang, a town very close to where I live. I am also interested in pumped hydro to help with renewable energy in the long run.

As a BBM Scholar you can choose to go anywhere in the world. Where will you travel with your Scholarship and why?

I hope to travel to New Zealand to learn about their hydro stations, which is the area that I work in in Australia. I hope to learn how they operate their machines, what is different between ours to theirs, and hopefully share some knowledge about the things I do as well.

Finn and his employer are participating in the Global Footprints Employer Supported Stream, a new pilot program that works in partnership between the scholar, their employer and Global Footprints. As we go through the scholarship program together, we hope to learn from and with each other to maximise opportunities for the scholar, for the employer and their industry and to continue to deliver the greatest possible impact for young people growing a better, more sustainable world.
