In honour of Clive Sisley

My Global Footprints Scholarship is an amazing opportunity to immerse myself in different cultural, social, and professional environments, broadening my perspective and enhancing my understanding of global markets and practices. I hope to interact with different people in the industry from diverse backgrounds and create valuable connections, opening doors to future career opportunities.

Through my studies for my Certificate IV and my Diploma in Agriculture at Tocal, through different placements and by coming from a family property, I have connected with individuals and organisations working towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This has created opportunities for shared learning, resources and growth for increased collective impact.

I aspire to contribute to the SDGs including working towards zero hunger, having good health and wellbeing for the community, taking climate action and protecting life on land.

For this I want to keep learning and improve on my education to help create a more sustainable world.

I would love to learn more about promoting renewable energy sources that support the shift away from fossil fuels, reducing dependence on non-renewable resources and minimising environmental pollution associated with traditional energy generation.

This not only helps combat climate change but also promotes energy independence, creates job opportunities in the renewable energy sector, and stimulates economic growth.

Implementing sustainable practices and engaging employees in these efforts fosters a culture of environmental responsibility. It can raise awareness about the importance of sustainability and encourage individuals to make conscious choices both at work and in their personal lives. This collective action has the potential to create a ripple effect, inspiring others to adopt sustainable practices and contributing to a broader societal change towards a more sustainable world.

Coming from a 4th generation turkey farm, in recent years, I have seen the poultry industry make notable strides towards sustainability, implementing innovative practices to reduce its environmental impact and improve animal welfare, by transitioning to alternative feed sources, enhancing the living conditions of birds, renewable energy integration and water conservation.

With my scholarship I am hoping to go to the UK.

The UK has a rich agricultural history, and it has played a significant role in shaping modern agricultural practices. Despite its relatively small size, the UK has a diverse agricultural landscape. From the rolling hills of the countryside to the modern agricultural practices in urban areas, there is a wide range of farming systems to explore. This diversity allows for a comprehensive understanding of different agricultural sectors, such as crop farming, livestock production and even poultry farming.

The UK has a strong reputation for agricultural research and innovation. Learning in this environment can provide access to the latest advancements and opportunities to engage with leading experts in the field.

I would also like to go to America and Canada.

Canada and the United States are at the forefront of agricultural technology and innovation. From precision agriculture and farm automation to the use of drones, sensors, and data analytics, these countries have embraced cutting-edge technologies to optimize crop production, improve efficiency, and reduce environmental impact.

Learning about these advancements can provide valuable insights into the future of agriculture and is something I could potentially bring back to Australia. Canada and the United States have a globally connected agricultural community, facilitating international collaborations and networking opportunities.

Studying agriculture in these countries can enable interactions with experts, researchers, and professionals from various backgrounds and cultures. This exposure can broaden perspectives, foster global connections, and facilitate future collaborations in the field of agriculture. The agricultural sector in both countries offers a wide range of career opportunities. From farming and ranching operations to agricultural research, agribusiness, food processing, and agricultural policy, there are diverse career paths available. Studying agriculture in Canada or the United States can provide access to industry networks, internships, and job opportunities that can launch a successful career in the agricultural sector.
